League Time!

After a long delay, Mang's Initiation League kicked off on the second week of April. In my first game against Mang, I nearly got the win and had made a mistake of not following an advice I oft give. Boost the attack to hit. Had I done so, I would have won against Mang. Alas, it was not meant to be. I conceded as my eButcher was too close to the enemy lines without focus.

My next game I went up against Fred in a 35 point match. This time, my eVlad eked out a win as Fred made a tactical error of ignoring my Manhunter. Immediately after eVlad feated, pAsphyxious fell to two swipes of the Manhunter.

Third game was against Pat Palma. He was using a warlock close to my heart, Xerxis, and much as I was wont to do so, I had to take him down. eButcher was hampered a lot by Inhospitable Ground but he fed the Doom Reavers to slow down the enemy advance at the same time waiting for the opening he needed and took it when only Pat's Tyrant Commander unit was in the control zone. eButcher cast Boundless Charge and Ravager on himself for the win.

Fourth game, Impjep's Kraye was my opponent. It was a fast game as Jeff did not focus on the objective and only had his Rowdy challenge my jacks. A Berserker died but Karchev knew there was more where they came from and had Beast demolish Rowdy and win by controlling the objectives.

Fifth game, the hardest game so far against Doc Lance, one of the best players in the local scene. He was using Circle this time. I have no illusions as to what the result would have been had he used his Cryx. Even then, I have also had problems against his Circle so I was concerned. The game took quite a while to finish, lasting longer than the 100 point match of Kim and Jeff. Against Lance's 3 beasts, my jacks always missed killing them by a hair. The Shadowhorn went to 1 and I thought I would be in trouble but I remembered the Unstable roll of the Berserker when he used focus and roll a 1 and so blew up and took the Shadowhorn with him. Drago also took the Pureblood down to 1 or 2. And the Pureblood made him pay by wrecking him on his turn. Feral and Wolves of Orborobos virtually killed the Kodiak. Then Beast 09 took the Feral down to 1(!) again! It was only through Bulldoze that the Spriggan managed to kill both Wolfbeasts. The game came down to the druids pushing my jacks off the control point and Mohsar blocking their way with Pillars of Salt. Beast 09 took out the blocking pillars allowing Spriggan to go for the assassination run. A rare win for me against Lance.

I'm eager to play more games in the next three weeks. I will give Strakhov and Zerkova a try. Hope I can play the former effectively and learn if Zerkova is a keeper or not.

Until next post.
