AT-43 Red Blok Rising

I'm into another game. AT-43. It's a sci-fi game opposite of Warmachine Hordes which I am into. It's a mix of 40k and WMH with the rules. the pic above shows my Urod and Sierp, Armored Fighting Vehicles but more known as combat striders. Kim and I tried it out at his place during Holy Week. We found it a nice change.

We looked forward to meeting and playing with the AT-43 players at Tabletop Wars especially on the 9th of April which was another holiday. Unfortunately Kim couldn't go. That day, I had my second and third game of AT-43. I lost to Sandico who was teaching and correcting my misconceptions about the rules. Learned a lot from him. I then went up against Rita, lady friend Tagz. I eked out a win against her by going for the objective.

Last Saturday, I went to Sandico's house to pay for some of the stuff I got from him and we played two games. The first was against Karmans. Man that was bad. Killed off my Urod and I was missing my rocket attacks. After Urod blew, he killed Col. Odin and Manon, the twins leaders of my army.

Second game, I won by killing Sandico's Urod as he was playing Red Blok this time around. I killed it in the second turn and since that was the only weapon he had for reliably killing my heavy armor, he conceded the game.

Enjoying the game a lot and I just got my Dotch Yaga and second Sierp from Sandico last night. Good times. :D

Currently my army has the following models:
1. Urod with Col. Odin and Manon - my Commanders so to speak. Type 2 or ** vehicle.
2. Dotch Yaga - the biggest AFV Red Blok has. Type 3 or *** vehicle.
3. Sierps x2 - Recon Striders which can lower my opponents Leadership Points.
4. RPG Kolossal - Type 3 or *** Infantry unit. Think Terminators of 40k or Man O' Wars of WMH only these guys have rocket launchers for arms.
5. Dragomirov Kolossal - Type 3 or *** Infantry unit this time having rocket launchers for one arm and gauss cannon for the other.
6. Spetsnaz Kolossal - Type 3 or *** Infantry with flamers for arms.

Coming in the future:
1. Lt. Dragomira - Hero for the Dragomirov unit.
2. Lt. Fortuna - Mercenary who can drive any Type 2 or ** AFV.
3. Maybe, just maybe another Urod so I can use it as a Hetman for Lt. Fortuna.

As you can see, my army leans more towards the heavy side. There are other infantry units but I prefer the armored stuff. I'm always outnumbered but I keep my fingers crossed that I can weather the shots. Most of the time I don't. Hahaha! Anyway, I will post future results in the blog.

Good fight. Good night.

League Time!

After a long delay, Mang's Initiation League kicked off on the second week of April. In my first game against Mang, I nearly got the win and had made a mistake of not following an advice I oft give. Boost the attack to hit. Had I done so, I would have won against Mang. Alas, it was not meant to be. I conceded as my eButcher was too close to the enemy lines without focus.

My next game I went up against Fred in a 35 point match. This time, my eVlad eked out a win as Fred made a tactical error of ignoring my Manhunter. Immediately after eVlad feated, pAsphyxious fell to two swipes of the Manhunter.

Third game was against Pat Palma. He was using a warlock close to my heart, Xerxis, and much as I was wont to do so, I had to take him down. eButcher was hampered a lot by Inhospitable Ground but he fed the Doom Reavers to slow down the enemy advance at the same time waiting for the opening he needed and took it when only Pat's Tyrant Commander unit was in the control zone. eButcher cast Boundless Charge and Ravager on himself for the win.

Fourth game, Impjep's Kraye was my opponent. It was a fast game as Jeff did not focus on the objective and only had his Rowdy challenge my jacks. A Berserker died but Karchev knew there was more where they came from and had Beast demolish Rowdy and win by controlling the objectives.

Fifth game, the hardest game so far against Doc Lance, one of the best players in the local scene. He was using Circle this time. I have no illusions as to what the result would have been had he used his Cryx. Even then, I have also had problems against his Circle so I was concerned. The game took quite a while to finish, lasting longer than the 100 point match of Kim and Jeff. Against Lance's 3 beasts, my jacks always missed killing them by a hair. The Shadowhorn went to 1 and I thought I would be in trouble but I remembered the Unstable roll of the Berserker when he used focus and roll a 1 and so blew up and took the Shadowhorn with him. Drago also took the Pureblood down to 1 or 2. And the Pureblood made him pay by wrecking him on his turn. Feral and Wolves of Orborobos virtually killed the Kodiak. Then Beast 09 took the Feral down to 1(!) again! It was only through Bulldoze that the Spriggan managed to kill both Wolfbeasts. The game came down to the druids pushing my jacks off the control point and Mohsar blocking their way with Pillars of Salt. Beast 09 took out the blocking pillars allowing Spriggan to go for the assassination run. A rare win for me against Lance.

I'm eager to play more games in the next three weeks. I will give Strakhov and Zerkova a try. Hope I can play the former effectively and learn if Zerkova is a keeper or not.

Until next post.

Holy Week Games

Spent some time with Kim and Jeff yesterday and played some games. Got to Kim's place around 230pm and we tried o figure out AT-43. I had just recently purchased some Red Blok models so wanted to learn the rules and see if I like it. Rules are kinda convoluted but probably because we were noodling it out instead of having a knowledgeable player explain it to us. I borrowed Kim's manual so I can read it the next few days.

When Jeff arrived, we cleared the table of the AT-43 stuff and proceeded to play Warmachine. I played Skorne with my original Xerxis list. Jeff played using his new caster, Kara Sloan. Game scenario was Process of Elimination. I was facing a Cygnar gunline. Jeff went first so I had to play conservatively. I hid the bulk of my army behind a forest so I could be protected from his ranged units. During my second turn, I put Press Forward on Rhadeim and let him walk and then Jump to get into melee with two Chargers and did some damage. Then I ran the Cats onto his ranged units to prevent them from shooting as Xerxis and the rest of his army approached.

My Cats were doing their usual best tying up Jeff's lines. Two of them died in the game, one each consecutive turns. Rhadeim himself was dismounted by Jeff's Defender but did some serious damage in return. The final turn of the game, I popped Xerxis feat, the remaining Ferox cleared some Long Gunners which were in the way of Molik. Molik then charged, finished off the Defender, Sidestepped into a Long Gunner, Sidestepped again to get within range of Kara Sloan. One hit with a Furied, Weaponmaster, Xerxis-Feated caster and one dead enemy caster.

Second game, Kim went up against Jeff's Kara Sloan again because he wanted to try having a game against the new caster of Cygnar. Short version, Jeff overextended Kara and Kim was able to Gallows Kara into gun range and his Winterguard did the mini Death Star CRA shot and killed off Kara.

Afterwards went to eat at Hap Chang. Chinese Food to top off a nice afternoon of gaming.

Karchev the Terrible

I've been playing Karchev the Terrible mostly in Mark 2. Karchev is my favorite caster in Warmachine, even in Mark 1 when he wasn't that great. What can I say, I just love cyborgs. Him being Khadoran is just icing on the cake.

Had a game against JM last Saturday at Atty. Dex' place. I brought my fun jack heavy Karchev 35 point list. It's comprised of:

Karchev
Beast
Berserkers x2
Drago
Kodiak
Wardog

Karchev won in turn 3 by assassinating JM's pSkarre. Now JM is a relatively new player so it's more I had an advantage in numbers of games played. Still and all I am enjoying Karchev and in the games that I lost against experienced players like Monroe and EJ, it all came down to me missing a couple of hits against the opposing caster or lock.

Will still be playing him the next couple of months though I might use Vlad or Butcher to break the monotony. Karchev ain't the terrible warcaster no more.

Back to the Motherland

After playing Skorne the much of December and January, I answered the call of the Motherland. Khador will always be my Warmachine-Hordes army.

Played quite a few games this week. Last Feb. 16, I played at Pitshop in some warm up games since the Mk II cards had come in the week before. I brought out my favorite caster, Karchev and won both my games there. Mark 2 has been kind to him. While not top tier, I feel he improve in Mark 2 even with the loss of one of his spells, Iron Curtain.

Yesterday, Feb 20, I got to play two games again. First was an eButcher Man o'War list at Fortress. Not really the most competitive of lists but a fluffy anf hopefully fun one. I went up against Jake and Jake did what he did best which was be the aggressor. Unfortunately, eButcher showed eStryker that he was still the superman in the Iron Kingdoms, wiping out half of Jake's army on feat turn allowing Beast to get the kill on eStryker.

Second game was at Attorney Dex Lacuanan's place that he calls the Tavern. I came in late since I played at fortress but managed to get a good game in against EJ, one of the best players in the local gaming scene. He won the game because I missed Beast's second attack against Kara Sloan by 1. Had I hit, I would have won. Such is Fate. Still and all, two fun games in one day. All one can ever ask for.

Until next time.

Mark 2 tally:
Warmachine
eButcher 2-0-0
Karchev 2-2-0
The Old Witch 0-1-0

Skorne:
pMakeda 0-1-0
Xerxis 4-2-0

Two Weeks of Labor

The last two weeks were very hectic for me. Moving heavy machinery is not an easy thing to do. Was really able to breathe a sigh of relief after the heavy job on Feb. 14th. 50% of the problem, the heavy machinery were moved that day. Once that was done, everything else was easy.

I hope not to do any of that again real soon.

Skorne

I'm officially a Skorne player now. Khador will always be my first army and my go to army during tourneys but the Skorne army I built for fun and even competitive games will be my break away from Khador. They're not so different when it comes to tactics. After trying out Privateers and Circle, I think I will stick with Skorne for much longer.

I've won 2/3rds of my Skorne games so far but I think that's due more to the Hordes Mk II Field Test where everyone isn't that familiar yet with the rules, which also kept changing but now that the rules have settled down a bit, I can now figure out if my Skorne is only for fun games or competitive ones.

Hope I can get in a few games later though may children's party. Will see. Too bad I missed yesterday's games at Dex' Tavern.

New Year

Another year since my last pot. I'm definitely not the Blogger type. Maybe I can do better this year.

Decembers and Januarys have been messy months for me the last few years. Hate the inanity. I'm hoping everything will settle down soon.

The last year has been the typical year. This year, I hope things change. I'm going 40 and I know I need to start thinking about me and my family's dreams and hopes for the future. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm also at a crossroads in life. I am not getting any younger. My hobbies take up lots of my time and I have to start dialing it back and focus more on the needs of my family. I can officially say I'm not a 40ker anymore and will stick with photography, WMH and Airsoft as my two main hobbies.

I'll also be getting in shape for some basketball again. My kids are growing older and my eldest is asking me to teach him some basketball though I think he prefers football more. Might try to enrol him in Milo this summer.

Here's looking to a better year.
