Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble

I played my Witch Coven for the first time last Saturday. 35 point tier list using the following:

Witch Coven
Deathjack
Deathripper
Nightwretch
Skarlock
Darragh Wrathe
Pistol Wraith
Soul Hunters
Witch Coven

I initially had my first game vs Erickson Kwok's Menite army but we didn't finish it as he had to leave immediately as he had to go meet his girlfriend.

I thought it was going to be a no game night and was watching the match between Tiny and Kim when John Benares came in and so we had a small game. As noted it was 35 points and the scenario was Diversion, a radial mission with control points.

So we rolled off to see who goes first and he won the die rolls and he decided to let me go first. So after setting up our armies, we started the game. I basically moved my army forward with the Soul Hunters and Darragh handling the right flank and most of my army aiming towards the center of the table. I sent the Nightwretch to the left. Deathjack moved towards the middle of the table where there was a crater opting to get some cover protection and casts Occultation on the Soul Hunters. The Witch Coven casts Infernal Machine on it and camps the remaining focus.

John B allocated focus to his jacks. He then moved up his army, attacking my Nightwretch with his Mage Hunter Strike Force and doing serious damage.  He then ran one of his lights and arced a spell onto the Nightwretch further lowerig its efficiency. The walked up his Shield Wall units as well as his solo cav. Mage Hunter Assassin went in to attack the Nighwretch but misses. He also pops Kaelyssa's feat to prevent me from charging and gives his army Stealth.

Next turn, Witch Coven  upkeeps Infernal Machine for free via Withershadow Combine. My Soul Hunter ran towards the MHSF to stop them from shooting. DJ then is given Ghost Walk by the Skarlock and then moves his 8" towards the John B's light jack and proceeds to demolish it. The Witch Coven move up and then pop their own feat as well as arc Stygian Abyss onto the MHA and kills her. Withershadow follows them. Pistol Wraith runs closer to the action.

In JohnBs next turn, he kills one of the two remaining Soul Hunters. He CMAs the Soul Hunters but one survived on his rolling 4s while needing 5s. His archers tried shooting at Darragh and misses. More shots take out the Nightwretch. He also advanced the cav solo and the Shield Wall unit.

My turn I allocate 2 focus to the Deathjack who had gotten a Soul Token before from the destruction of the MHA. Darragh charges an MHA and kills it then Battle Wizard activates and kills another model. The remaining Soul Hunter activates and while Incorporeal charges Kaelyssa and misses forgetting he has a soul token. Pistol Wraith kills 2 MHSF models, clearing the way for the DJ. Skarlock casts Ghostly onto DJ and promptly charges Kaelyssa over some rough terrain. He reaches Kaelyssa and manages to kill her.

So my first usage of the Witch Coven turns into a win for the ladies with the ball. Hope you enjoyed the batrep.

WMH Pokemon! I Choose You! Now I Have Them All!

I finally completed my Cryx warcasters. Here they are in all their infamy:

From left to right they are: Epic Goreshade, Epic Deneghra, Scaverous, Prime Goreshade, Prime Deneghra, Epic Asphyxious, Epic Skarre, Prime Asphyxious, Venethrax, Prime Skarre, Mortenebra, Witch Coven and Terminus at the back. 13 for 13 and just waiting for the third incarnation of Asphyxious for 14.

Hope I can play each of them at least 50 games each. But that might just take a couple of years. Enjoy the pic!

Epic Gore

This week painted up a new caster. Epic Goreshade it was. And here he is in all his undead glory:

I took him out for his first game last night, a 35 point match against Christian "Kei" Valentin. He was using Epic Haley in that game and this was the list he used:

Faction: Cygnar
Casters: 1/1
Points: 34/35
Major Victoria Haley (*5pts)
* Defender (9pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team (4pts)
Stormblade Infantry (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard (3pts)
Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios (3pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2pts)

I used this list for Epic Goreshade:

Faction: epic Goreshade - Heresy of Shadows
Casters: 1/1
Points: 35/35
Tiers: 4
Goreshade the Cursed (*5pts)
* Deathripper (4pts)
* Deathripper (4pts)
* Defiler (5pts)
* Skarlock Thrall (2pts)
Bane Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* Bane Thrall Officer & Standard (0pts)
Bane Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
The Withershadow Combine (5pts)
Bane Lord Tartarus (4pts)
Pistol Wraith (3pts)
3 Scrap Thrall (1pts)
3 Scrap Thrall (1pts)
3 Scrap Thrall (1pts)

It was a long and drawn out battle, reaching 6 rounds before I managed to finally get as assassination run in and that run was exciting as well with me missing my boosted charge attack and then proceeding to miss the next attack as well. I was sweating at the third bought and boosted attack. If I missed that, most likely I wouldn't have enough focus to kill her. Luckily the third attack hit and I proceeded to roll an 11 for damage sealing the victory. I will wait up for Kim to upload the video of the batrep and link it to this blog.

Until next time!

100th Game With Cryx

Had my 100th game with my Cryx army last May 1, 2012. That day, I played Mortenebra twice.

First was a 25 point game against Christian Melo's Strakhov which I got by mainly because he was new and the second game was against Rob's Prime Haley.

 In my game with Melo, we played Envelopment scenario but ended up more on going for assassination. I deployed first spreading my models in the center of deployment. I played a tier list with the following models:

Mortenebra
Deathjack
Reaper
Leviathan
2x Warwitch Sirens.

Melo had:

Strakhov
Beast
Min Kayazy+UA
Widowmakers
Manhunter
Yuri the Axe
Prime Eiryss
Kell Bailoch

So I ran my models forward my first turn with DJ getting Spectral Steel giving it +2 to Arm and Ghostly. He cautiously advances and shoots with his Widowmakers doing some damage. Beast is also given Superiority.

Next turn, I tried to hit Beast with the Reaper's ranged attack and hoping to Drag it and missed even with boosting the attack via Mortenebra's interface. Leviathan tries shooting the Widowmakers and miss. I then charge with the Deathjack against a Widowmaker and kill it then I attack Beast taking it down 2/3rds of its points. At this point, Mortenebra is a bit up front and exposed.

So on Melo's turn he shoots with his Widowmakers again and pEiryss hits Mortenebra with a Dirsuption bolt stripping her of her focus. Strakhov feats and charges the Leviathan, damaging it. Beast does some damage to the Deathjack but not enough as Strakhov didn't allocate focus to Beast. Kayazy now charge Mortenebra. Unfortunately, they had to go through Deathjack's Abomination range as well as Mortenebra's Terror range. They promptly failed the first test and the attack against Mortenebra failed.

My turn, Derilyss casts Spectral Steel on the Deathjack and it went for the win.

In my next game vs Rob, I played the same list, adding a Defiler and Slayer. Rob had: Prime Haley Thorn Squire ATGMs with ATGM Officer Jackmarshalled Defender Stormblades with Stormblades Officer and Standard Strangeways Journeyman Warcaster In this game, we played the Process of Elimination scenario. Rob won the die roll but decided to have me go first.

So as usual I ran most of my models forward and Mortenebra giving Spectral Steel to the Deathjack and Warwitch Sirens giving focus to some of the jacks. I stayed mainly in the middle of my side of the board.

Rob's turn, he moved Thorn forward and arced Arcane Shield on it and it moved again. Journeyman moved up and cast Arcane Shield on the Stormblades. ATGM stayed put and the Defender moved forward and shot but missed as he made a mistake in sequence of activations with Arlan.

Next turn I ran moved my defiler forward and tried spraying Thorn, missing my attacks. I then ran Mortenebra towards the Reaper and then the Reaper interfaced with Mortenebra and tried to hit Thorn and missed it. Deathjack then ran towards the Reaper. Leviathan tried shooting ATGMs and missing and the Slayer moved up. Sirens also moved up.

On Rob's turn, he shot with his Defender doing damage to the Leviathan. ATGMs move up and tried shooting at the Siren but her high defence lets her live one more turn. Haley tries to Scramble the Reaper but just stays put as the direction was towards Mortenebra whom the Reaper we in base to base with already. Stormblades moved up as well. Journeyman damages the Defiler.

My next turn, Mortenebra ran forward to get to base to base with the Reaper. The Reaper boosting via Interface hit and damaged Thorn and dragged it to itself. Followup attacks didn't do much damage. Siren tries to hit Reaper with spray and misses. Deathjack however finishes off Thorn. On the other side of the table, Defiler sprays and hits 2 Stormblades. Slayer charges and also does kills 2 Stormblade. Second Siren moves up.

On Rob's turn he feats with Haley. ATGMs shoot at and damage the Leviathan as well as kill the wounded Siren. Defender shoots and heavily damages the Reaper. Journeyman shoots at the Slayer damaging it and then the Stormblades finish it off.

Next turn, Mortenebra moves from her position risking falling damage which didn't punch through her armor. Mortenebra can't be knocked down so it was a good play. Reaper moves forward and again with Interface shoots at Defender, damaging it and dragging it to itself. Does some more damage with focus from Mortenebra and Deathjack finishes it off. Defiler sprays the Stormblades and hits a couple of them.

Rob goes for hail mary pass on his turn. First, some Stormblades die to Corrosion. Then Haley along with the Journeyman breaks the Reaper. ATGMs now try to shoot at Mortenebra and she takes some damage but cover from the wrecked Reaper keeps her Defense high enough to weather the shots. Rob concedes the game after his turn as the Deathjack will be in range of Haley. Good games and worthy opponents who will only get better with experience. When I got home and listed my games, I found out the last gamge was my 100th game. Winning it is a good bonus. Until next time!

P.S. Forgot to take pics! Arrrgh!

Vaya Con Diyos

Lost a good friend the other day. He had a heart attack while undergoing dialysis. He's tough as they come, having lost an appendix, had a quintuple bypass and survived 2 previous heart attacks afterwards. This last one, I guess the Guy up there decided he has gone through enough pain and took my friend into His bosom.

I was supposed to meet him yesterday too. Would have been nice to reminisce with him about the college days as well as get updated on how he was and what he was doing. It wasn't meant to be.

God keep you safe, Peter Solquillo. Twas a good run.

Games at Schizo March 3, 2012

Had 2 games at Schizo last Saturday. It was my first time to visit there. Schizo is the haunt of the newer Warmachine players. Louie de Guzman invited us to play there and we took the offer. Kim and Kei arrived earlier than me along with Louie.

My first game was against Jose Arguelles aka Taks. We played Envelopment scenario from Steamroller 2012 with 7 points of reinforcements. He used Epic Magnus and his Tier 4 list. I was a noob using Epic Asphyxious for the first time. Taks played a bit more aggressively and almost always went for the assassination. He nearly did eGaspy in too. His rolls weren't going for him though. His first Oblit rocket attack from the first of his 2 Renegades did 3 points of damage. It was bad since the damage was all in. His last assassination attempt needed a total of 15 points to kill eGaspy. He rolled 14 total and eGaspy lives to see another round. My army then went for the kill. Taks was smart. He avoided killing my models so eGaspy wouldn't be that much of a threat.

Second game was vs Erickson Kwok aka Menite-Kei. Erick used Prime Serverius in this game. This was more straightforward affair as he wanted to see how eGaspy's feat works. Problem was he was rolling terribly in hitting or damaging my models. So Tartarus and the Bane Knights actually lived a turn more than they should have. Finally managed to kill them but the second wave Bane Thralls then went up to bat. Meanwhile, the Pistol Wraith was Death Chilling his Reckoner so was making it less effective than it should relegating it to a shooting platform. eGaspy then came up for his feat turn and Old Man Sevvy was pulled down by the Knights. Though Tartarus and the first Bane Knight made it interesting as they both missed Severius but with 8 more models to go, it got done by the 4th model.

Two interesting but very good games. The first one I really should have lost except for the bad or just missed to damage rolls. The second could also have gone either way had Erick managed to destroy Tartarus and the Bane Knights much earlier. Unfortunately was not able to take pics but hope I can take pics next time.
